Dosage and method of administration:

Strepsils + Lidoc. can be used in adults and children from 12 years old.

Throat spray.

Two nebulizations, repeat if necessary, every two hours, with a maximum of 8 times a day (24 hours).

Contraindications:

Do not use Strepsils + Lidoc. in children under 12, given the risk of rapid absorption of the anesthetic and reflex laryngospasms.

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.

Special warnings and special precautions for use:

Avoid contact with eyes (spray).

In sensitive people, applying the spray may increase the risk of anesthesia of the glottis and dysphagia.

Temporary change in sensations in the mouth and throat.

The spray can be used in people with diabetes. The lozenges contain sugar.

Pregnancy and breast feeding:

As there are no concrete data on the use of this medicine during pregnancy or lactation, caution is advised during this period.

Side effects:

No systemic reactions have yet been reported. In general, systemic reactions only appear after long-term treatment (see "Overdose"). Unlike many local anesthetics, lidocaine is almost not allergenic. Hypersensitivity reactions following the presence of this anesthetic therefore appear only rarely. They manifest as erythema, a burning or tingling sensation in the mouth or throat, or swelling in the mouth or throat.

Taste can be influenced.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines:

Given the characteristics of the product, it is unlikely that Strepsils + Lidoc. has the slightest influence on driving and using machines.

Overdose:

Given the low content of active ingredients, an overdose is practically excluded. In case of abnormal use (much higher dosage, mucosal lesions) an overdose may occur. It initially manifests as excessive anesthesia of the upper respiratory and digestive tracts. Systemic reactions secondary to absorption of lidoc. can happen. The most serious effects of lidocaine poisoning are manifested in the central nervous system (insomnia, restlessness, excitement and respiratory depression) and in the cardiovascular system; methemoglobinemia may also occur.

Treatment is symptomatic and adjunctive; medical observation is desired. Methemoglobinemia can be treated with an immediate intravenous injection of methylene blue (1 - 4 mg / kg).
